Group and Couples, Bates Golf Design Following a ten-year association with
two of the golfing world’s
most recognized course developers, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus, Bates
stepped out of their shadows and struck out on his own in 1989. Gene’s
work has been very well received, and earned “Best New Golf Course” honors
from Golf
Digest magazine for six of the past seven years and “Golf Architect
of the Year” accolades in 2005.
His partnership with Fred Couples in Couples/Bates Design has produced a trio of outstanding golf courses in Canada; Villa de St Jovite and Le Matrie de Mont Tremblant in Quebec and The Rise in Vernon, British Columbia.
